fakelife(fāk-līf):
music for the simulation

My name is Matt Couchois and I produce music under the moniker “fakelife”. My relationship to music began at the age of seven with the saxophone – and quickly expanded to the piano when my mom taught me how to play at the age of twelve. After several years of playing drums in various punk and hardcore bands, I eventually picked up the guitar when my dad, a former bandmate to Larry Byrom of Steppenwolf, bought me my first acoustic. After years of playing in other bands and touring the country, I find myself back in my home studio making music in a small space with a big sound.
I’ve been lucky enough to have written and produced music for everything from podcasts, movie trailers, remixes, artists, and tv shows. Projects I’ve worked on include Rugrats, Nickelodeon, a national Infinite car commercial, Facebook, CBS, Disney, NFL, MTV and VH1 shows, Universal Pictures, Paramount, and many others. I pride myself on delivering a polished, professional sound in a quick and punctual timeframe.
